MILESTONES IN HISTORY

BASIC HISTORY TIMELINE

1894 WESLEYAN COLLEGIATE SCHOOL FOUNDED
The very first school building was called the "Tin Temple" (in Grey Street) and the doors opened with just 14 pupils.
1895 THE SCHOOL NAME CHANGED TO KINGSWOOD COLLEGE
During 1895 the school’s name was changed to "Kingswood College."  A decision we believe was championed by Gane.
1896 FOUNDATION STONE LAID FOR THE PRESENT 'SCHOOL HOUSE'
The school moved into School House, Burton Street, during 1897. This was to be the first year the school’s Foundation Day was observed and celebrated.
1973 FIRST GIRLS ACCEPTED TO KINGSWOOD COLLEGE
In 1973 the first girls were accepted into the school. At first, it was just girls from Grade R to Grade 3, but in 1974 this extended up to Grade 7, then finally senior school in 1975.
